SYDNEY TO MELBOURNE COASTAL SELF-DRIVE ITINERARY
Day 1 Sydney to Kangaroo Valley. Distance 190kms (2 hours, 30 minutes)
Start your coastal drive at the Royal National Park, the second oldest national park in the world. Continue along Grand Pacific Drive across the cliff hugging Sea Cliff Bridge and into the bustling coastal city of Wollongong. Continue through the seaside villages of Shellharbour and Kiama. Visit the nearby Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk and spend the night at Kangaroo Valley. Keep a lookout for kangaroos and wombats at sundown.

Day 2 Kangaroo Valley to Bermagui. Distance 250kms (3 hours, 30 minutes)
Travel via Cambewarra Mountain to Nowra and continue south to Mollymook and Ulladulla. See kangaroos on the beach and witness one of their occasional swims in the surf at Pebbly Beach. Enjoy fresh seafood at one of the excellent restaurants in Batemans Bay and discover the oyster farms and sample their succulent produce. Continue along the coast through the townships of Broulee, Tuross Head, Narooma and through to Bermagui.

Day 3 Bermagui to Gipsy Point. Distance 170kms (2 hours, 30 minutes)
Begin your journey from Bermagui to Gipsy Point. Tathra is a popular beach with a historic wharf nestled beneath the headland. Stop off at Pambula - a quaint country town by the sea with some delightful heritage architecture. Visit the Killer Whale Museum at Eden on the way through to Gipsy point and spend the afternoon exploring the beautiful waterways of Mallacoota.

Day 4 Gipsy Point to Metung. Distance 210kms (3 hours)
Travel out to Cape Conran Coastal Park and Marlo, where the Snowy River meets the sea. Enjoy lunch at Lakes Entrance and take the bridge across the broadwater to 90-mile beach. Arrive at Metung in time for a boardwalk stroll around Lake King, part of the Gippsland Lakes, Australia’s largest inland waterway system.

Day 5 Metung to Wilsons Promontory. Distance 300kms (4 hours)
Enjoy an early breakfast and call in at Yarram for lunch on the way to Wilsons Promontory National Park, home to great scenery and abundant wildlife. Spend the afternoon following the many walking tracks through eucalypt forests and wildflowers to secluded coves, white sand beaches and granite mountains.

Day 6 Wilsons Promontory to Mornington Peninsula. Distance 210kms (3 hours)
Fishing enthusiasts can find excellent surf and estuary fishing around Venus Bay and Tarwin Lower and at Coal Creek Heritage Village in Korumburra, you can experience the life and times of a 19th century coal mining village. The Mornington Peninsula boasts golf resorts, indulgent day spas, grand gardens and inspired regional food and wine. And you are never far from a bay or coastal beach for a stroll freshened by sea breezes.

Day 7 Mornington Peninsula to Melbourne. Distance 100kms (1 hour, 30 minutes)
It takes only about 30 minutes to travel the Peninsula top to toe and 10 to 15 minutes to drive from one coast to the other through green hillsides laced with vines and dotted with olive groves, orchards and produce farms.
