Thailand Coup

At Mike Henry Travel Insurance we always follow advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in situations that involve travel to a foreign country. Below are a few points regarding our position on travel for Thailand.

  • At this stage MFAT has listed the situation in Thailand as ‘some risk’ to personal security.
  • If an insured customer is in Thailand and incurs additional expenses as a result of the coup we will cover these costs, provided they are reasonable.
  • At this stage we do not foresee that any additional costs will be incurred.
  • If someone departs for Thailand from today onwards and their policy was purchased before 19 September, they will be covered for reasonable unforeseen expenses incurred as a result of the coup.
  • If a policy is purchased today when the MFAT advisory for Thailand is ‘some risk’, the traveller will be covered for reasonable unforeseen expenses incurred as a result of the coup.
  • At this stage there is no cover for cancellation of travel to Thailand as a result of the coup.

We are monitoring the situation and will take advice from MFAT. If the advisory changes to either high or extreme risk we will give further clarification on what travellers are covered for. We recommend travellers to Thailand follow advice from MFAT.
