Tonga - 20 November 2006

Further to the riots in Nuku'alofa, as of this morning Air New Zealand has resumed flights to Tonga.

The NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT) have also maintained the current warning of 'Some Risk' for travel to Tonga.

Therefore for all persons travelling to Tonga will be covered under the usual terms of their travel insurance policy.

For all policies issued prior to Friday 17th November 2006:
If travelling to the outer islands and/or resorts it is not our intention to cover travel cancellation. If the itinerary includes more than 48hours in Nuku'alofa we will review any requests for cancellation of a case by case basis.

For policies purchased on, or after Friday 17th November 2006, there is no cover for any claims arising some this situation. We will continue to monitor the situation and will advise of any changes. In the meantime we urge people to monitor the MFAT Safe Travel Website www.safetravel.govt.nz.
