OVERVIEW
Karibu Welcomes you to Africa
Karibu Safari means “Welcome Travel ” in Swahili

ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Karibu is a reputable, well-established safari company, that has been organising safaris in Southern and Central Africa since 1983. Over the past 23 years, our dedication to well planned, authentic safari experiences for the discerning traveller has secured us the reputation of ‘leading mobile safari operator in Southern Africa’. At Karibu Safari, many miles and years of experience have enabled us to achieve that perfect balance between a true African safari, and the superior level of comfort and consideration, which makes the journey truly memorable. It is this hard-won balance, which sets us apart. From our humble beginnings in Botswana, over 20 years ago, to where we are today, we are inordinately proud of what we have to offer you.

THE SAFARI EXPERIENCE:
A Karibu Safari is more than a glorious wildlife adventure. It’s a unique opportunity to enjoy an experience with like-minded people from all corners of the world. To learn about nature, about people, even about yourself. You’ll meet others with whom you’ll form a bond, and many long-term friendships and correspondences have arisen from a Karibu Safari. Our finest compliment is a regular one: clients who return to us time and time again to make new memories, discover other parts of our wonderful continent, and know that – alone or partnered – they ’ll experience it in the best way possible, in fine company. Ours … and yours.

HOW WE OPERATE:
Karibu Safari operates from Maun in Botswana, Windhoek in Namibia and from Durban and Johannesburg in South Africa, where local and international reservations are handled. The company’s directors are avid wildlife enthusiasts and have been involved in conservation and safaris for many years. A professional approach, fine attention to detail, experienced safari leaders, and high quality food and equipment are the hallmarks of a Karibu Safari. Our prices are realistic with no hidden costs. If you want a real safari, close to nature and wildlife, the professional, committed team at Karibu Safari awaits you.

YOUR SAFARI GUIDE:
Karibu Safari leaders are selected for their experience of the African bush and will ensure that your safari is enjoyable and successful. The guides are in the full time employ of the company and are thoroughly trained professionals. Local resident managers of the company in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, personally supervise safaris. Detailed information on the history of the area, fauna and flora is given to guests during the safari. Local camp assistants and cooks take care of all camp duties on the camping safaris. The safaris are conducted in English.

EXCLUSIVE CAMP SITES FOR OUR SMALL GROUPS:
Wherever possible we include stays at private, secluded campsites on our itineraries for the exclusive use of our safari groups. These sites are chosen for their exceptional scenic locations (eg.near a lagoon or wide plain etc.). The Livingstone and Classic Okavango Safaris as well as the Authentic and Okavango Safaris of Botswana use exclusive sites within the National Parks, providing clients with a unique and intimate safari experience. The Classic Namibia and Oryx & Himba Safari include exclusive sites in areas of such stunning beauty that they are bound to take your breath away, the images remaining long after your return home.

CONSERVATION:
Most countries are members of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) which restricts the import/export of numerous species and their products. In the interest of Wildlife Conservation and Eco-tourism we ask you to please refrain from purchasing any shells, corals, animal skins, ivory or wildlife products. These may be confiscated by customs. Please be aware that the purchase of large wooden carvings places a strain on forest resources. Rather purchase small items.

DESTINATIONS & TOURS

Namibia ‘Land of Contrast’
From the moment you enter Namibia, the striking quality of contrasts is immediately evident. In the central region you’ll encounter Herero women with their distinctive colourful Victorian-style dresses while in the rugged northwestern corner of the country live the Himba, an ancient tribe of semi-nomadic people. Their skins rubbed with red ochre and dressed in animal hides, many Himba still live the traditional life style.

Etosha is the most famous of the National Parks, where elephant and the rare black rhino may be seen interacting only metres from your seat at the famous floodlit waterhole of Okaukuejo. Selected waterholes are like open-air theatres with casts of thousands of zebras, wildebeest and gemsbok drinking to the trumpeting of elephant and roaring of lions.
Move to the west and find game in unexpected places, from the rocky canyons of Damaraland where the free ranging black rhino and unique desert elephant are protected, to the Skeleton Coast Park where huge colonies of seals breed.

The Namib desert is one of the oldest and driest places on earth and it is as dramatic in character as it is sparse in population. Here nature ’s masterpieces are a photographer’s dream. The towering dunes at Sossusvlei where the mood and colour of the ancient sands changes with the shifting winds and light, are a highlight of any visit to the country.
Namibia has it all ………

Botswana ’Gem of Africa’
Botswana has some of the largest remaining herds of African wildlife, free to roam in an immense and diverse landscape, offering tourists one of the greatest true wilderness areas of the world.

The Okavango Delta with the combination of water and open grassy plains creates a suitable habitat for a variety of animal and bird species. Exploring the waterways by boat is a unique experience. Moremi Wildlife Reserve is a shining example of the natural diversity that sound land management and the protection of wildlife resources can produce. With 20% of the Okavango Delta within its borders, it is renowned for its spectacular game viewing.

Chobe National Park is home to several distinct ecosystems; with Savute in the west, famous for its predators. The Chobe River is the main permanent water source during the dry season, drawing the world’s highest concentration of elephant and buffalo to its banks. A truly amazing sight that is witnessed from the comforts of our boat during a sunset cruise on the river.

The Central Kalahari is best visited during the summer months of December to April. During this period the migrating herds of wildebeest, zebra and springbok make this a happy hunting ground for the many predators. Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans are remarkable sights where one can find total solitude.

For a truly untouched wilderness experience, the Parks of Botswana are without doubt the place to visit. The spectacular game viewing from both land and water based activities is unparalleled in Africa!
