OVERVIEW

Stretching 600km along the western edge of the South Island, the West Coast is a rugged region with high snow capped mountains, towering rainforests, lowland river valleys, dramatic coastlines, grinding glaciers, surging rivers and beautiful lakes. This is a spectacularly scenic area where natural heritage is reserved in five National Parks and a World Heritage area.

Mt Cook is a scenic wonderland and is Australasia's highest peak and one of the 140 mountains in the Southern Alps. These mountains provide an awe inspiring background for a whole host of outdoor activities - skiing, heliskiing, scenic flights, tramping and hiking and some of the clearest skies in the Southern Hemisphere.
