WHERE TO STAY & GETTING AROUND

WHERE TO STAY?
Kaua’i’s North Shore - The dramatic beauty of the valleys and mountains of the north shore of Kaua’i are best seen from the Hanalei Valley Lookout. Here you will see green fields of taro grow in beds of water that show the reflection of the sky, the ideal spot to see rare birds.

Kaua’i’s Eastside - From Lihu’e to Kapa’a is the center of activity on the island. All roads lead to and from these towns, so here you’ll find a large concentration of shopping, dining and places to stay. The town of Kapa’a has managed to successfully blend local style general stores and restaurants with gentrified boutiques and dining rooms-and beautiful beaches are only metres away. Kapa’a Beach Park or Waipouli, are ideal place to soak up some sun.

South Kaua’i - The drive into South Kaua’i takes you under a mile-long canopy of eucalyptus trees whose branches form a leafy ceiling, cutting through the majestic Ha’upu Mountain Range. Here you will find the worldfamous beaches of Po’ipu. Ideal for body surfing, swimming and with a bit of luck seal and turtle watching! Poipu Beach was named in one of the “Top 10 Most Romantic Getaways “from USA Today.

West Kaua’i - Venerable towns and many imposing natural attractions play major roles in West Kaua`i’s appeal. Begin your Westside adventure in Hanapepe, a nice old town that wears its age proudly. Boasting several fine arts galleries and restaurants, Hanapepe is a friendly stroll through the Kaua`i of yesterday. Inland you must visit Waimea Canyon-the largest canyon in the Pacific.

GETTING AROUND
It’s easy to drive on Kaua`i because there are only two main roads - Highway 56 goes north from Lihue; Highway 50 travels south and west from Lihue. Your rental car can be your freedom to ride to historical places, cultural places, fun places and places you’ll want to see simply because they’re inspiringly beautiful. Please see page 5 for our great weekly car hire rates.

MUST SEE'S & DO'S

ADVENTURE PLUS
Kaua`i’s wilderness is daunting, its ocean challenging, its canyons awesome. Paddlers can take kayaks along the Na Pali Coast, on a cobalt sea where spinner dolphins, green sea turtles and schools of brightly colored fish play. In the winter months, they’re joined by mighty humpback whales that have migrated from chilly Alaskan waters to the warm Pacific. Hikers can tackle Kalalau Trail, a precipitous north shore passage that winds along 1,000-foot-high sea cliffs into Kaua`i’s primal heart. Kaua`i offers dozens of hiking trails. You can also glide through a grand canyon in a whirlybird, kayak down a lazy river, angle for rainbow trout, and meander through a cloud forest that’s a sanctuary for rare native birds and plants
