Waikiki Beach - Considered the “world’s most famous beach”, Waikiki Beach is ideal for swimming, surfing and outrigger canoe rides. Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve - one of the most spectacular beaches in Hawaii, this beautiful marine protected park is ideal for swimming, picnics and snorkelling. (Note: Closed on Tuesdays). Foster Botanical Gardens - Enjoy a guided tour of the 20 acre park and garden where you’ll gain a new appreciation for the island’s lush foliage as you walk among thousands of rare, native and introduced plants. Kailua Bay - This beautiful quiet seaside town is just 45 minutes (through the tunnels) from Waikiki. The beach park has beautiful soft golden sand and is safe for swimming, turtles are often seen right from shore. North Shore Beaches - The North Shore is legendary for its monumental and perfectly formed waves and it draws an awed crowd of spectators when the surf’s up in the winter. Summer months bring calm conditions great for snorkelling and kayaking. ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING Bishop Museum - founded in 1889 this museum houses the worlds foremost collection of Hawaiiana and Polynesian antiques. Situated near the airport (hours 9am-4pm most days). Halona Blowhole - located near Hanauma Bay Park approx. 40 minutes drive from Waikiki this spectacular force of nature is free for all to enjoy. Sea Life Park - located near Makapuu Point in East Oahu. The park is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 300,000-gallon Hawaiian Reef Aquarium provides a unique view of Hawaii’s underwater ecosystem “from top to bottom.” Diamond Head - Possibly one of the most famous craters in the world, Diamond Head is located on the South-East Coast of Oahu over looking Waikiki Beach. There are two sets of stairs to reach the top of the rim (each has approx 90 steps) and although it is quite a strenuous hike the views are well worth it! There is also a tunnel (which you will need a torch for). SHOPPING Aloha Tower Markeplace - Dining, entertainment and shopping along Honolulu Harbor’s waterfront. Aloha Tower was built in 1926 and was once the tallest building in the islands. Today, Aloha tower continues to welcome cruise visitors to Oahu’s friendly shores. Ala Moana Shopping Center - Located approx. 10 minutes from Waikiki Beach this centre is a premier international and local shopping destination with over 240 shops and restaurants. From beachwear to high fashion to giant toy shops you will find it all in a beautiful open air setting filled with lush tropical plants and koi ponds. Open daily from 9.30am -9.00pm (except Sundays from 10am - 7.00pm). Waikele Outlet Mall - Waikele Premium Outlets is more than just a great collection of the finest designer labels and brands, it’s Hawaii’s only outlet center. Well worth the 50 minutes from Waikiki as the savings on brands such as Banana Republic, Saks, Osh Kosh and much more are just incredible, (sometimes as high as 70% of regular prices!). Dining Tip: Looking for a cheap eat right on the beach? We found the ideal place at the back of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel (Pink Palace) a lovely spot called the Maitai Bar with outdoor tables and a live band right on the beach. Mains start at just US$13. The easiest way to find these café’s is to walk along the beach. |
